How to pack roll or fold

If you’re heading off on holiday soon, you may have already been thinking about what to pack. From swimwear to evening outfits, accessories and sun cream, there can be a lot to think about when you’re jetting off.

Whether you’re going for a relaxing two weeks at a luxury all-inclusive or you’re spending a few days in a new city, at this time of year, the items you pack are generally similar. But how can you make life easier when packing for your trip?

It then comes down to whether you’re a light packer who only takes the essentials and is happy to wash and re-wear items, or someone who prefers to take as many options as they can, just in case!

Now if you’re a light packer, you’re probably not reading this article as packing for you is most likely quite simple! You won’t fill your case to the brim, and you probably find packing easy. If you’re the other kind of packer, you may be wondering why your case is always jam-packed and how you can simplify things (or how can you fit more in?!)

LET’S LOOK AT THE WAY IN WHICH YOU PACK.

We’re not sure about you but we’ve tried all kinds of ways to find a way of fitting more in. Shoes at the bottom, shoes on top, folded neatly, rolled to perfection avoiding creases. But what really works best?

TO ROLL OR TO FOLD?

We believe that if you’re going away for a few short days, you’ve planned your outfits and you know what you’re taking, then folding could be a good option for you. Folding is perfect if you don’t need the extra space. If, for example, you’ve created a capsule look for your few days away then folding is fine and may, in fact, leave you more space for things like shoes and bags/wash bags.

However, if you’re heading away for a week or two rolling could be your best bet. Rolling indeed allows you to pack more items so if you’re taking near enough 10 t-shirts, 6 shirts, 6 pairs of shorts and 4 pairs of trousers plus swimwear, underwear etc then you’re going to need the space and we’re confident you’ll fit it all in by neatly rolling each item of clothing.

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO TO SIMPLIFY THE PACKING PROCESS?

PACKING CUBES

Once you’ve folded or rolled your items, you may want to think about packing cubes. Packing cubes are great if you like to be extra organized and want to make life easier when you come to unpack and repack when it’s home time. We recommend keeping items in categories, e.g. t-shirts in one packing cube, shorts, underwear and swimwear and having extra for things like electricals/chargers and your shoes.

KEEP YOUR COLLARS FROM COLLAPSING!

You may think if you’re rolling your shirts that your collar will become squashed, however, it’s possible to roll the bottom part of the shirt and keep the collar flat. You can then slot your shirts together within your packing cube. To avoid your collar from becoming squashed, you can keep your belts in the neck of your shirts. This will keep your collars upright!
