This week we’ve spoken to Nigel Cleaver linguist and lover of all things style.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT GETTING OLDER?
Excited! I can’t wait to get more lines and a full head of grey hair, silver fox like.
HAVE YOU CHANGED THE WAY YOU DRESS AS YOU HAVE GOTTEN OLDER AND IF SO, HOW?
Yes, I believe I have. I embrace colour more, less likely to shun bright colours, strong
patterns. I’m assuming that comes with experience in understanding how these things work, however, I’m convinced it also comes from the confidence that maturity brings.
DO YOU FEEL THERE IS TOO MUCH PRESSURE TO LOOK YOUNGER THESE DAYS?
I don’t know if that’s the case, not from my perspective at least. I don’t feel under any
pressure to conform to a stereotype of any type. I like what I’ve become and revel in being able to lead not follow.
WHAT’S YOUR RESPONSE TO THE GUIDANCE ON HOW TO DRESS OVER A ‘CERTAIN AGE’?
Balderdash! I dress for me
WHERE DO YOU SEEK INSPIRATION?
I see things daily that inspire me. On the street, on tv, the internet, at the florists etc.
WHERE DO YOU BUY YOUR CLOTHES AND IS IT DIFFERENT TO WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?
I use similar shops now for everyday wear so no change there really except I have more disposable income so don’t have to wait for the sales! The biggest change has been my preference for made-to-measure and bespoke tailoring. Game changer that was!
ARE THERE CERTAIN ASPECTS YOU LOOK FOR IN CLOTHES THAT YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE BEFORE?
I always looked for detail, I was raised on the mantra ‘attention to detail’. I now also pay more attention to quality and timeless classic pieces.
Thank you so much for your time!
