4 minutes read

In the ever-evolving landscape of menswear, certain shows leave an indelible mark with their sartorial choices. One such series is Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, where bespoke tailoring takes centre stage, offering a glimpse into the world of Savile Row sophistication. As we explore the impeccable wardrobes of characters like Eddie Horniman and Uncle Stanley Johnston, let’s unravel the essence of Savile Row tailoring and how Alexandra Wood Bespoke can recreate and enhance these iconic designs for your wardrobe.

Savile Row Tailoring: The Epitome of Sartorial Tailoring

The Gentlemen series captures the essence of traditional masculine dressing with a modern flair, aligning perfectly with our ethos at Alexandra Wood. The characters wear impeccably tailored suits, reflecting the timeless craftsmanship synonymous with Savile Row. From three-piece tweed ensembles to sleek sports jackets, each outfit exudes sophistication and attention to detail.

At Savile Row, craftsmanship is paramount. Every stitch, fold, and fabric choice is meticulously curated to create garments that not only fit impeccably but also stand the test of time. This dedication to quality and tradition is what sets Savile Row apart as the pinnacle of menswear excellence.

The Winning Tailoring From The Gentlemen

Stanley Johnston in a grey sports jacket over a crisp white shirt and an oatmeal piece of knitwear over his shoulders. I’m loving this look. It looks so transitional. Throw off the suit jacket, keep the trousers on and hey presto- a super modern look on a preppy outfit.

Eddie Horniman in a toffee shirt/ shacket with chocolate brown trousers. (ton sur ton) Flannel trousers with a modern shirt oozes smoking hot appeal. Pairing classics with modern pieces works so well.

Eddie Hornman in a class ‘Aquascutum-esque’ check coat teamed with a dark and easy crew neck sweater and white T-shirt. This would work well with a chocolate toned roll neck or chunky knit.

Eddie Hornman three-piece brown tweed suit, worn with a soft chambray shirt and a paisley tie in a tertiary tone. This is paired with a classic paisley tie for a modern take on a gentleman like classic outfit. I’d personally ditch the tie and open up the first two buttons of the shirt, for more of an air of sexiness. It still grins a little bit too old fashioned for me if styled like this.

This isn’t the only nice suit worn by James in the series – there’s a classic blue two-piece and a great brown tweed peak lapel number. This is loose in fitting where we’d of course ensure that waistline be razor sharp instead. Nonetheless it looks great with a navy polo.

Fabric Selection: Elevating Every Detail

One of the hallmarks of Savile Row tailoring is the emphasis on premium fabrics. From luxurious tweeds to fine wools and cashmere, the choice of fabric defines the character of each garment. Alexandra Wood Bespoke provides a curated selection of fabrics, allowing you to choose materials that resonate with your style and comfort.
