Alexandra Wood’s favourite looks from the BAFTAs 2020

Alexandra Woods favourite looks from the BAFTAs 2020 Alexandra Wood

Here at AW, we absolutely love the BAFTAs and awards season in general. The glitz and the glam is so exciting and the energy is palpable.

As tailors & designers we like to see how the men are scrubbing up and who they’re being dressed by. We love to think about how we’d dress that person and look at what we love about their look and what we would change!

We’re personally delighted to have dressed Director, Rupert Goold for this year’s BAFTAs. Rupert directed the film Judy, a film about Judy Garland’s life, last year. Judy Garland was played by the fabulous Renee Zellweger and Renee won Best Actress at the BAFTAs 2020!

Rupert looked fantastic in our navy velvet smoking jacket with our ready to wear dinner shirt and pure silk handmade bowtie. He also wore Barkers patent ‘Goldington’ black dinner shoes with a pair of his own trousers.

Another look we loved was Kelvin Harrison Jr’s who opted for a cream smoking jacket with satin lapels and completed the look with a black bowtie and trousers. Kelvin is best known for playing Luce in 2019 thriller. We felt his trousers were tapered nicely and were the perfect width between being slim and too wide. We also loved the Cuban heel on his shoes and thought the gold buckle added a nice little extra detail.

You might recognise Michael Ward from playing Jamie in Topboy or Marco in 2019 film, Blue Story. Michael left the BAFTAs with the Rising Start prize and is set for big things in 2020. We thought he looked dapper in his classic black dinner suit on the night. The jacket and trousers were fitted to perfection giving him a super sleek look.

Before we take a look at William’s BAFTA outfit, can we mention how lovely Kate looked? Dressed in Alexander McQueen she looked as elegant as ever. Prince William’s classic look was sophisticated and charming. We particularly loved his suede slipper style shoes and felt this look at a real Bond edge to it.

Finally, we loved New Zealand filmmaker, actor and comedian Taika Waititi’s look for the 2020 BAFTAs. The shawl lapel adds a relaxed but suave vibe to his look and the navy complements his olive skin tone. The overall look had a laidback feel to it without compromising on sophistication.
