As the first female tailor to grace the historic streets of Savile Row designing exclusively for men, Alexandra Wood has seamlessly blended tradition with innovation, bringing a refreshing perspective to the tailoring world. With features in elite publications like GQ, Tatler, Forbes, and Square Mile, she has become the go-to for bespoke tailoring and style direction for the discerning professional man.

“Voted one of the best Savile Row Tailors 2024 “Looking for a bespoke suit exactly the way you want it? Since 2007, that has been Alexandra Wood’s mission” to find out what the customer wants, and build upon it. While respectful of Savile Row, Alexandra Wood prides itself on its open-mindedness.”

”He was easily the best-dressed man in the room (once dubbed “GQ Man” by the Guardian). Even with his plate overloaded from the buffet, Umunna was looking good. Partly it is the way he carries himself – calm, relaxed, supremely confident – but also it is those bespoke suits he wears from Alexandra Wood on Savile Row.” Tony Parsons, GQ

”Her bespoke pieces have been worn by politicians, actors and film directors, as well as being named ‘’Tailor of the 21st Century’’ by GQ. This success has been hard won and thanks to 13 years experience. Alexandra has plenty of wisdom to share on the art of navigating a male-dominated environment and finding success on your own terms.”

”Alexandra isn’t your usual tailor. For one, she’s a woman – one of the first on Savile Row, and still something of a rarity on the storied street. Driven by a desire to make the world of men’s tailoring more personal and less intimidating, Alexandra began her tailoring career in womenswear, Alexandra quickly found she had a hidden talent for mens tailoring.”

The store is favoured by tailoring first-timers, who note the expertise and friendliness of the staff. While respectful of Savile Row, Alexandra Wood prides itself on its open-mindedness. Your sense of shame and guilt for wanting a bright pink suit? You can leave it at the door.

GQ

a Savile Row suit is infinitely more than a gorgeous item of clothing that fits like a second skin. A Savile Row suit is a mood-enhancing drug. Here is the finest bespoke tailoring on the planet and it changes everything: the way you look at the world; the way the world looks at you; the way you walk and think, your confidence.

The epitaphs to dressing up may prove premature, for there is a transformative power in “your best”. The clothes I own from Alexandra Wood of Savile Row feel like a uniform designed to let me live my life.

FORBES

“How does a woman build that unshakeable belief, you might ask. By knowing exactly what she is bringing to the industry is the answer. For Alexandra, this was the understanding that, as a woman, she had a completely different perspective on tailoring than a man might: “My clients actually like the fact that I’m a woman as I come at the tailoring from a completely different viewpoint. Many men love the fact that I can offer a female eye and that I can help them create a look that their wife or girlfriend might appreciate.”

Forbes, Bianca Barratt

Square Mile Style Columnist

Alexandra has been a regular fixture in the fashion press – featuring in titles such as Forbes, The Sunday Times Style, and The Guardian.

Which is all to say, we’re rather pleased to announce that Alexandra is Square Mile’s new style shrink.

A Savile Row Maverick

“Wood is leading a revolution on the street synonymous with suits by being a woman taking tailoring to the next level. There’s the Kingsman, but Alexandra is The Queenswoman.”

Robb Report

“If there’s one thing going for me though, it’s that we’re on the phone and Wood can’t see me. We’ve never met, in fact, and so it’s not that she’s telling me navy, grey and camel are my sartorial kryptonite: just that in her 23 years of experience, people don’t always choose the colours or the pieces that make them look, well, good. This, she assures me, is where she comes in.” Robin Swithinbank, Robb Report

“With a sleek polish that is more House of Cards than Houses of Parliament, Umunna has brought the sartorial flair of a new generation of British men to politics. His bespoke suits are made on Savile Row- and by one of its first female tailors, Alexandra Wood.” Jess Cartner-Morley, fashion editor, theGuardian.GQ says: The Guardian referred to the MP for Streatham and shadow business secretary until September 2015 as the “*GQ *man” and we’re happy to take that as a compliment.

And while being overly image-conscious is frowned upon, many voters instinctively associate smartness with seriousness. ‘My view of tailoring is that it shows a level of respect to the work you’re doing and the people you’re meeting with’, says Alexandra Wood, the Savile Row tailor behind the famously well-dressed Labour-turned-Change UK MP Chuka Umunna’s bespoke suits” Alexandra Wood says.
