THE BEST WEEKEND WEAR Alexandra Wood

You’ve got your work wear sorted, then you open your wardrobe to pick out something for your friends casual BBQ, or lunch out with your parents and your mind’s gone blank.

Do you find yourself standing staring at your wardrobe and can’t put an outfit together for the life of you?

It’s something a lot of our customers say they get stuck with. When there’s a 90:10 ratio of being at work vs down time things can get tricky in the wardrobe department. So, we’ve put together some of our top tips for how to decide what to wear at the weekend.

YOUR SMART/CASUAL WARDROBE STAPLES

  • CLASSIC SPORTS JACKET

A sports jacket is a must and in a classic colour, you can’t go wrong. Don’t ever use your suit jacket as your sports jacket go to. Order a separate jacket or a few, that you can wear with t-shirts, sweaters and casual or formal trousers.

Alternative coloured sports jackets

Step slightly out of your comfort zone and go for a different coloured sports jacket. These are great for dressing up slightly for a sporting event perhaps or just for mixing things up with your usual go to trousers.

Trouser alternatives – Cords, twill, moleskin.

It’s not all about chinos or jeans. There are alternatives. Our Super lightweight chinos are comfortable, especially for holidays and casual weekends. Casual cords, a nice balance between smart and casual. Slightly warmer, so perfect for Autumn. Lightweight jeans, these have been developed by us specifically for men who want to look smart, but don’t want the weight of heavy jeans.

An organic cotton white t-shirt

A good quality cotton t-shirt will go everywhere with you. From wearing with jeans for a crisp, casual look to teaming with your sports jacket and smarter trousers for a summer lunch. You may be thinking, ‘a white t-shirt?’ but as long as it’s a high quality, well fitted white t-shirt then you can’t go wrong and it will have a bigger impact than you’d first expect.

Shirts in materials other than cotton, think linen and silk blends

While a cotton shirt can be great for the weekend too, if you wear them every day to work, you may want a different texture for occasions and events. A luxurious silk blend paired with a twill trouser and sports jacket is the ideal outfit for any weekend situation!

To conclude, these are the basics to a great weekend wardrobe and once you feel comfortable choosing a chic shirt and sports jacket combination, the world is your oyster! You can then experiment with different fabrics, colours and textures!
