Made to leisure: The best casual tailoring pieces 2023

3 minutes read

If you’re looking for a more relaxed way to look stylish in comfortable tailoring, then ‘made to leisure’ is the ideal choice. Savile Row’s Alexandra Wood explains the essential must haves…

Stretch jerseys, cotton and linen blends all make for incredibly stylish, and comfortable leisure tailoring.

Formal tailored suits, ties and buttoned up shirts have taken a little bit of a bypass since the pandemic and where stretch may have previously conjured up thoughts of polyester, or a list of other unsavoury fabrics- tailoring and fabrics have come a long way.

Where you may not wear this style to work, in fact- we advise against it. It does work wonders for travel, weekend activities and relaxed lunches out with friends.

Stretch jersey fabrics. What’s it all about?

Fabrics have taken on a new life with lightweight cotton denims and pure cottons with stretch, and we here at Alexandra Wood love it! Experimenting with exciting fabrics, yet staying within our timeless classic design with a flattering cut makes for a truly unique piece of clothing that we guarantee no one else will own.

Where to start with made to leisure?

Our made to measure leisure range consists of a number of key items. Here’s our top 5:

  1. Jersey stretch tailored suit

Perfect for travelling or relaxed lunches. Best worn with a tailored T-shirt and if a little chilly- add a cotton/silk mix scarf with a pair of smart trainers. You’ll be putting those hoodie wearers to shame!

  1. Tailored Drawstring trousers

In a stretch jersey, linen blend or cotton, these make for an ideal stylish, yet superbly comfortable wardrobe staple. Perfect with a contrasting relaxed sports jacket, work with either a plain fitted T-shirt or knitwear- If chilly, layer up and wear both.

For Summer, these are great both travel in and wear for relaxed evenings out.

  1. Made to measure stretch cotton suit

This was one of our best sellers last year and we have decided that it’s highly deserving as a staple wardrobe piece. This is a design that can be worn to weddings, Henley- all the way through to casual lunches out. Choose a classic navy or warm sand colour for a timeless choice that’ll be easy to pair with everything.

  1. Tailored cotton T-shirts

No classy man should ever wear or own a ‘logo-ed’ T-shirt. They should be made from pure cotton, in a medium weight, plain and tailored. (Not tight!)

Wear under knitwear so that you don’t get an unsightly crumpled effect, wear alone with jackets and suits and or under shirts to make them last longer- just make sure your shirt isn’t remotely see through or this will end up looking not so great!

  1. Pique cotton shirts

Divinely comfortable, soft and tailored with stretch. This fabric is just like your polo tops yet even softer, stretchier and more comfortable. Plus, they look amazing with all of the items above 👆

At Alexandra Wood we design, tailor and style your image to take you from courtroom to Cannes.
