When it comes to sports jackets for the summer, knowing how to look stylish in the heat can be tricky. Knowing what style and fabric to wear for your summer sports jacket can be half the battle. Let’s get you prepared, as summer will be here before you know it and we at Alexandra Wood are here to ensure your style is always stylishly on time.
We make sure you look hot while staying cool. Here are our top 7 most stylish summer sports jacket must haves:
1. Linen sports jacket
I never used to be a fan of linen, however newly produced linens mean that they’re much softer and where they crease to some degree, they also look stylish and the colours are just incredible. Our favourites are from British fabric supplier Dugdales. Buy as a bespoke suit and wear together, or wear as separates. Unlike a classic tailored suit, wearing separates works well and still looks cool. (see what I did there 😉 )
My top tip is that chocolate brown will be this seasons go to. I’ve seen hints of it about but feel it in my bones that it will be seen more and more and it looks amazing with so many combinations; from jeans to chinos to smart trousers. And if you’re needing inspiration as to what shade and tone, then that’s why I’m here to help.
2. Seersucker sports jacket
An American fabric which has a slightly puckered effect. This fabric in a sports jacket for summer is incredibly lightweight and feels like air to wear.
It looks great with lightweight smarter jeans and a simple white tailored T-Shirt, add a pair of smart white sneakers or smart loafers and it makes for a fab effortless summer look. This fabric has limited colours such as the classic thin blue/white stripe (bit of a no no for me) navy, soft blue and dark green (which I think looks amazing!)
3. Cotton sports jacket
Lightweight cotton, mid weight cotton or stretch cotton are ideal for a summer fresh, tailored sports jacket. There’s so much choice and fun to be had with this versatile fabric. Not only does it feel light and crisp, it looks great with jeans or with lightweight smarter trousers. A flexible choice that looks just as good a little more worn as it does after it’s just been made.
We’ve got some amazing new cotton colours just in from salmon pink to cool, aqua blue- perfect for summers abroad in Italy, Greece and beyond.
4. Stretch jersey cotton sports jacket
The latest to the tailoring world is ‘stretch jersey’ made from cotton. In fact an entire, tailored drawstring trouser suit in this fabric would be an international jet setters dream come true. While others are wearing their comfies, you’re still rocking it in style with a tailored, yet super comfortable casual suit moves with you.
I told you here first, so if you want to look like the most modern man in first class, then this is the one for you.
5. Lightweight wool sports jacket
Choosing a lightweight wool is always a great choice and by opting for a ‘high twist’ fabric, you will never see a crease where it’s not wanted. Usually more crisp to the touch than other softer fabrics but will keep it’s shape even when you’re boiling in crazy Summer temperatures.
6. Mesh wool sports jacket
Where wool always sounds more of a winter fabric, this mesh wool works well all year round. To be more summer light, you may choose to have it made unconstructed. This fabric is durable, completely create free. Seriously, you can literally throw this into your suitcase, and it’ll come out crisp and ready to wear at the other end. I love practical fabrics that require minimal effort and I know you do too.
7. Hopsack sports jacket
This may sound like something you’ll be doing a three legged race in, but have no fear – It’s not! This is a highly durable, non crease fabric with a loose weave and a slight shine to it, this is a magical fabric that looks stunning for sophisticated dinners out with an open necked linen or crisp cotton shirt. To be worn with sleek, tailored high twist wool trousers, you’ll be looking effortlessly stylish.
We’re here to ensure you always look your best so if you need a new tailored sports jacket for the summer, we’re here to guide you to make the best choice for you.
