We understand that you’ll have many questions before delving into the world of made to measure – everyone does. So we’ve tried to answer some of your top, most commonly asked questions…
WHAT IS MADE TO MEASURE?
A made to measure suit is made from an existing ‘block’ that is modified to fit you in a way that is superior to ready to wear. At Alexandra Wood our exclusive ‘block’ has been designed to make you look ‘more’! The exact details will remain a secret, but your suit will be designed exclusively for you, with your body shape, skin tone and lifestyle in mind. Nothing makes buying a suit more painless than handing the task over to someone with experience, expertise and a passion for making you look amazing.
You can expect your suit to be fully made, as if ready to wear, but created to your specific requirements around a classic Alexandra Wood design, with extra attention to the details that really count. While a wide lapel may work on one man, it may not on another. We guide you by helping you not to be led blindly by Fashion and by designing you a suit that suits and fits only you. That’s what makes the real difference and where made to measure tailoring and you can really take centre stage.

WHY CHOOSE MADE TO MEASURE?
You may choose made to measure because you’ve spent far too much time and energy trawling around shops, where nothing ever quite fits the way you want it to, or it fits but it’s not the colour or style of fabric you want. Plus, there’s no doubt about it, the construction and quality of fabrics is far superior than anything off the peg (Ready to wear) and overall, far less time consuming.

WHAT HAPPENS AT A CONSULTATION?
When it comes to your suit, there’s a lot to do before you even choose a design or fabric. At your initial consultation your tailor will consider your body shape and your lifestyle. They’ll also take into consideration how and when you’ll wear your suit. Measurements will also be taken. At Alexandra Wood, we take over twenty measurements, configurations and detailed notes. Perfection takes time!
We like to spend an hour getting to know you and what you want from your suit.
CAN I MAKE ANY CHANGES AFTER COLLECTION?
Absolutely. You need to wear a suit to be able to know how you feel in it. It’s one thing to stand stock still at a fitting where it fits perfectly, and another entirely when you sit down and realise that the fit is not quite as you first thought. The reality is that some men like their suit to be super close fitting with breathing being a secondary consideration, where others like a lot more space and movement.
We always advise our customers to call us if they have any problems at all and then bring it back in so that we can fix it.
DO YOU MAKE ITEMS OTHER THAN SUITS?
Absolutely! As the movement in menswear has leaned far more into smart/casual looks, we’re well equipped with fabrics and ideas that will get you looking suitably sharp every day (Pardon the pun!)
HOW SUIT FITTINGS WORK?
Your first suit fitting takes place around 6-8 weeks after the initial consultation and take around 30 minutes each.
Made to measure suits are made straight to finish and no major changes to lapels or other details are possible at this stage but your suit is then tweaked to perfect the fit and takes a further 1-2 weeks.
HOW MANY FITTINGS WILL I NEED?
We usually need you to visit us for two or three fittings for a made to measure suit. This includes your first appointment.
Sound like too long for a suit?
The end result will be worth it, trust us! (Plus, its actually fun!)
